Download LOTRO Companion
Click here to download LOTRO Companion. It comes in a zip file. Extract the zip file, and then run LotRO Companion/LotRO Companion.exe to begin. These instructions were lasted checked against LOTRO Companion Version 16.0 Update 30.0.1 (18/06/2021).
(Note: LOTRO Companion can run on non-Windows machines, but the import may not work. These steps have only been tested on a Windows machine.)
Configure LOTRO Companion
If this is your first time using LOTRO Companion, press the Settings… button under Misc.
If necessary, change the LOTRO client path to match the path on your system. For example, my recent install on a Windows 10 system is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\StandingStoneGames\The Lord of the Rings Online. (LOTRO Companion tries to find this automatically, so you may not need to change this.) Press OK once you have chosen the correct path.
Import a Character from LOTRO to LOTRO Companion
First, launch LOTRO and log in to the character you want to import.
Then, back in the LOTRO Companion main window, press the Import from LOTRO… button under Misc.
Double-check that your LOTRO Client is still logged on as the character you want to import. On the Import from local client screen, press Start.
The import can take a few moments, especially if your character has completed a lot of deeds. Once it is complete, you will get an Import finished! message.
Note: If you press the Start button and nothing seems to happen, you may need to run LOTRO Companion as an administrator. Right-click the LotRO Companion icon in the start menu, go to More, and click Run as administrator. If you get a prompt that says “Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device”, click Yes.
Now that the import is complete, you can close this window with the X in the upper-right corner.
You have finished importing your character! You can do a lot of other cool things in LOTRO Companion, but for now we are done, and you can close it. Now it’s time to import this data into the Deed Tracker plugin!
Import Deed Completion Status from LOTRO Companion into Deed Tracker
In the Deed Tracker plugin directory (usually something like Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\Plugins\CubePlugins\DeedTracker) you will find a file called ImportDeedCompletionFromLotroCompanion.hta.
Note: Please ensure you downloaded the Deed Tracker files directly from lotrointerface.com or the Plugin Compendium. Opening this HTA file is just like running any other program on your computer – it can create or delete any file you have access to or engage in other malicious activities.
Run the ImportDeedCompletionFromLotroCompanion.hta Hypertext Application file. (Double-click it, right-click and select Open, or select it and press Enter.) It will detect your LOTRO accounts (based on your PluginData directory) and the available LOTRO Companion imported characters, and present them for your inspection.
If there are any problems that would prevent an account from being imported, they will be displayed in their own section.
Once you have resolved any errors, press the Import All button to start.
If an error message pops up, then something went wrong and the script stops to prevent any additional problems. If you could, please email a screenshot to LotroDeedTracker@gmail.com and we will try to fix the error!
If there are no errors, you will see a results screen.
At this point, the LOTRO Companion Deed Completion data has successfully been imported into the Deed Tracker.
Importing in Deed Tracker
The first time you load the Deed Tracker plugin for each imported character after running the import script, you will see the Import window.
There are two main sections to this window. The first shows the deeds that LOTRO Companion thinks the character has completed that are not already checked off in the Deed Tracker. Press the Import Completed Deeds button to check them off in Deed Tracker.
The bottom section shows any deeds that were already checked off in the Deed Tracker that LOTRO Companion did not detect. This usually happens if you manually checked something off incorrectly, if you chose the wrong deed in the disambiguation window, or if the deed is relatively new and LOTRO Companion has not been updated to include it. Because of the variability of causes, these are not automatically unchecked. Please review the information and decide if a deed needs to be unchecked in Deed Tracker.
This window only appears the first time you load the Deed Tracker plugin with each imported character. If you accidentally dismiss it without pressing the Import Completed Deeds button, just re-run the ImportDeedCompletionFromLotroCompanion.hta import to see it again the next time Deed Tracker loads.
Once you have LOTRO Companion set up correctly, doing a fresh import of a character takes only a few minutes, and can save a lot of time getting your Deed Tracker status up-to-date for every character.
